The difference between seeing a therapist and working with a life coach lies in their focus and methodology. A therapist is typically trained to diagnose and treat mental health issues, helping individuals heal from past traumas and deal with psychological disorders. They delve deep into your past, uncovering patterns that might obstruct your emotional well-being; it’s about ensuring you're psychologically sound and able to face the world.
If you're looking for someone to help you achieve your goals and improve your life, a life coach might be just what you need. The relationship with a life coach is a partnership where you work together to engineer the life you've always wanted. With a life coach, it's all about momentum – it's about reigniting your life, shaping it, rediscovering your passion and purpose, and making your dreams happen.
My personal experience with conventional therapy was adequate, but it was when I discovered an unconventional therapist in Mexico that I felt the benefits of therapeutic work. She introduced me to hypnotherapy and rituals, the latter of which I had always been skeptical about. However, I approached the experience with an open mind and was surprised that I genuinely enjoyed participating in these rituals. She also introduced me to transgenerational therapy, encouraging me to talk with my older family members. Through these discussions, I uncovered hidden traumas that had been obstacles to my emotional well-being. This aspect of the therapeutic process was particularly eye-opening and allowed me to understand my family's history better, including painful and previously unknown truths.
In my journey, I found coaching to be a more engaging and dynamic experience compared to therapy. Firstly, I love that the client determines the outcome they want from the get-go. The coach is there to help you understand how best to achieve that outcome. Coaching challenged me to reflect on my dis-empowering thought patterns, my values, my relationships, leading me to become a more authentic person and helping me develop a profound sense of self-love that I hadn't discovered in therapy. The coaches I've worked with have been like a supportive partner, always encouraging me to strive for self-improvement and goal achievement. The experiences have always been transformative, allowing me to grow and shape my life in ways that truly resonated with me. While transgenerational therapy was eye-opening and helped me uncover hidden traumas, coaching taught me how to have the courage and confidence to create whatever I want in my life.
The world of personal development is vast, with therapists and life coaches each playing a unique role. Depending on your situation, one may be a better fit for you than the other. Therapy can be incredibly beneficial for those who are struggling with mental health issues, it provides a safe and supportive space to develop coping strategies. On the other hand, coaching is more focused on the present and future, helping you clarify your goals, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and change limiting thought patterns to empowering ones.
When it comes to choosing a therapist or life coach, it's important to take your time and find the right fit. After all, this is your life and you deserve to work with someone who understands you and your goals. Don't be afraid to shop around and talk to several different coaches and therapists before making a commitment. Pay attention to how you feel during your conversations with them – do you feel heard, respected, and motivated? Trust your instincts and choose the person who resonates with you the most. With the right guide by your side, you'll be able to navigate the ups and downs of life with confidence and ease.
Take a moment to reflect on your life. What aspects could benefit from the support of a therapist or a life coach? Are there any areas where you need help or clarification? Book your discovery call, I'll be hapy to help you!
With love & respect,
Magdalena
